MISSISSAUGA – Day five at the East Coast NARCh Finals at the Hershey Centre is one of those days where a  changing of the guard takes place.  Divisions such as Atom Gold/Silver division ended with a bang with the Mission Bauer BorderCats taking home the gold championship, while the Junior Gladiators won the silver division. With that being said, a total of ten divisions have gone home, but there is still a ton of hockey left to be played.

A highly entertaining Round Robin for D1 is about to conclude, while on the other hand divisions such as Bantam Platinum and Bantam Gold are just getting underway. Going back to Division 1, there has been a bunch of entertaining games that have taken place thus far.

In the opening game of the day, HockeyMutt.com would face the Konixx Outcasts. With such a young roster, the play of HockeyMutt have surprised many spectators across the arena. Before the game against the Outcasts, they would have a win and a draw, including an upset victory over the Halton Alkali Coyotes. The Outcasts were bringing two losses with them before their showdown with HockeyMutt, looking to add a ‘W’ to the win column.

They would get off to a great start, scoring two goals while playing great defense throughout the first period. However, HockeyMutt would storm back in the second scoring both their goals within a two minute span to even the game at two.

Konixx would dominate the last two minutes of play, but the strong play of HockeyMutt goaltender Rob Kowalcyk would keep his team above water. It would be the last minute where HockeyMutt would convert on a odd-man rush to complete the comeback and defeat the Outcasts by a score of 3-2.

That amazing twenty-four minutes of Hockey was just a small taste of how competitive D1 truly is, and there will be plenty more emotional games to come. Later tonight, the Halton Alkali Coyotes will be fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive against the Outcasts. With a win from both Hallton and Mission Black Ice, the Edmonton Ducks would be eliminated from the competition, while Black Ice would clinch the #1 seed.
