MANILA – It wasn’t pretty, but Canada got the job done and defeated Senegal by a score of 58-55. Once again, Cory Joseph led the way, with 13 points, and had some help from Forward Melvin Ejim, who plays for Reyer Venezia Mestre of the Lega Basket Serie A. He had 11 points, on top of his 8 rebounds as well.
Guard Tyler Ennis of the Milwaukee Bucks was also solid today, tallying 12 points. Former First overall pick Anthony Bennett played well scoring 7 points, shooting 60% from the field, as well as 7 rebounds as well. Sharpshooter Brady Heslip struggled today, scoring no points, shooting 0/7 from the field, and 0/5 from downtown. Tristan Thompson affected the game in so many ways, while struggling to find his offensive game (3/8 from the field), Thompson had 10 rebounds, and half of them were offensive rebounds.
With the victory, Canada now clinched top spot of their group, and will await the second place country from Group B. The game will be played Saturday July 9th.
