Your 2015-2016 Super Bowl champs are none other than the Denver Broncos. There was so much to talk about like, but I chose to talk about the main storyline. The dominance of the Denver defense led by the MVP, Von Miller.
Two years ago, when the Denver Broncos were absolutely pummeled by the Seattle Seahawks 42-8, heading into the offseason John Elway made it very clear that they were going to improve the secondary, due to the fact Von Miller and Chris Harris Jr. (Two of their best defensive players at the time) were injured at Super Bowl 48.
Elway did the job, by signing bonified veterans such as DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib, and T.J. Ward, quickly putting itself among the elite secondaries in the National Football League. When Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio left for the head coaching position in Oakland, Denver was left looking for a new guy. Here comes in Wade Phillips.
Phillips was very creative with this defense, and it really showed throughout the season, especially tonight. Carolina HC Ron Rivera clearly found no answers for that front seven, and the Panthers receivers found it very difficult to get with the best group of the back the NFL.
The Broncos sacked Cam Newton seven times, and just flat out hit him a whopping nineteen times. But DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller as expected, stole the show. Ware had five tackles and 2.5 sacks, while Miller had six tackles, but his 2.5 sacks, were strips where both ended up leading to touchdowns.
This defense was absolutely stellar this season, letting Peyton Manning finally take a back seat after years of constant mediocre defenses with Indy. With most of the front seven becoming unrestricted free agents, will they be as this dominant come next September?
