Super Bowl Preview: The Car Accident That Changed Cam’s Career

I’m not a Cam Newton fan at all, but I’ll be the first to admit that he has had a remarkable season, leading the Panthers to Super Bowl 50. Carolina looks great, and have been since December 2014, since the “accident”.

It’s December 9 2014. Cam Newton’s heading his way to practice when he hits a truck. Cam suffers a fractured back and sustains some other minor injuries. The other driver was okay too. But it obviously could’ve been worse. Easily Cam could’ve been hurt even more severe, even worse.

Cam only missed one game, and has been on a tear ever since. Coming back from the fractured back won the final two games of the season and barely, I mean barely squeak into the playoffs with a record of 7-8-1. But you know what they say, playoffs is a clean slate, and the Panthers used that and upset the Cardinals in the NFC Wild Card. But ended losing to Seattle in the divisional round. Also add the 15-1 regular season, Cam has been on a tear ever since with a 25-2 record since the accident.

You know, Super Cam wasn’t always smiling at the start of last season. The former Heisman Trophy winner was facing a lot of scrutiny after a disappointing record of 4-8-1, just before the accident. That accident really did change his life. It made him realize that life is fragile, and you have to make the most out of it, thus showing a change of pace, with him smiling and having fun all the time. If Carolina pulls it off on Sunday, it would be something Cam probably have never thought of on the day of December 9th.
